Event-by-event study of DCC-like fluctuation in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions

A method based on sliding window scheme is developed to search for patches in the pseudorapidity-azimuth plane, on an event-by-event basis, having unusual fluctuation in the neutral pion fraction which may arise due to the formation of Disoriented Chrial Condensates (DCC) in high energy nuclear collisions. The efficiency of the method to extract the patches and the purity of the extracted sample are studied for possible experimental situations.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure

PriPeARL: A Framework for Privacy-Preserving Analytics and Reporting at LinkedIn

Preserving privacy of users is a key requirement of web-scale analytics and reporting applications, and has witnessed a renewed focus in light of recent data breaches and new regulations such as GDPR. We focus on the problem of computing robust, reliable analytics in a privacy-preserving manner, while satisfying product requirements. We present PriPeARL, a framework for privacy-preserving analytics and reporting, inspired by differential privacy. We describe the overall design and architecture, and the key modeling components, focusing on the unique challenges associated with privacy, coverage, utility, and consistency. We perform an experimental study in the context of ads analytics and reporting at LinkedIn, thereby demonstrating the tradeoffs between privacy and utility needs, and the applicability of privacy-preserving mechanisms to real-world data. We also highlight the lessons learned from the production deployment of our system at LinkedIn.Comment: Conference information: ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM 2018

Bulk and thin films of FeTe: A Moessbauer study

    Get PDF
Studies of bulk and thin films of FeTe using Moessbauer spectroscopy showed that FeTe has one noncubic Fe (+2) site which is 3d2 4s 4p3 hybridized. The presence of dangling bands was indicated in spectra of FeTe thin films. The films showed a tendency of texture formation. The substrate was observed to influence the film structure and nature of bonds in films

Event-by-Event Search for Charged Neutral Fluctuations in Pb - Pb Collisions at 158-A-GeV

Results from the analysis of data obtained from the WA98 experiment at the CERN SPS have been presented. Some events have been filtered which show photon excess in limited ηϕ\eta-\phi zones within the overlap region of the charged particle and photon multiplicity detectors.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

EDUCATION AND LABOUR MARKET OUTCOMES: EVIDENCE FROM INDIA

    Get PDF
The impact of education on labour market outcomes is analysed using data from various rounds of the National Sample Survey of India. Occupational destination is examined using both multinomial logit analyses and structural dynamic discrete choice modelling. The latter approach involves the use of a novel approach to constructing a pseudo-panel from repeated cross-section data, and is particularly useful as a means of evaluating policy impacts over time. We find that policy to expand educational provision leads initially to an increased takeup of education, and in the longer term leads to an increased propensity for workers to enter non-manual employment.

The effect of education on labour market outcomes is analysed using both survey and administrative data from The Brazilian PNAD and RAIS-MIGRA series, respectively. Occupational destination is examined using both multinomial logit analyses and structural dynamic discrete choice modelling. The latter approach is particularly useful as a means of evaluating policy impacts over time. We find that policy to expand educational provision leads initially to an increased take-up of education, and in the longer term leads to an increased propensity for workers to enter non-manual employment.
